Lena Marie Schiffer is a folk singer and songwriter based in Livingston, Montana. She has carved a notable niche in the music industry, particularly during her decade-long journey with the nationally touring group, Laney Lou and the Bird Dogs. Lena’s time with the band deepened her passion for the craft of songwriting, resulting in her emergence as a prolific songwriter with a distinctive fusion of folk, indie, and Americana influences.
Attending a show with Lena is an intimate journey. She writes lyrics that offer deeply personal reflections and insightful observations about the world, creating a universal resonance. Her pure and soaring vocal melodies are influenced by icons like Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, and Alison Krauss. With each note, Lena invites the audience into a shared experience, leaving a lasting impression on those in the room.
Lena often plays with Ani Casabonne on fiddle and an assortment of other instrumentalists backing her up. She plans to release her debut album as a solo artist in the Fall of 2025. Lena also plays in a folk duo with her husband, Ryan Acker, called the Canoe Dealers. They have released three cover songs on streaming sites and tour occasionally in their home region.
Outside of performing, Lena founded the Yellowstone Women’s Music Collective, which aims to uplift and highlight the voices of women and femme individuals in Montana. She is a regular contributing writer for the publication Montana Woman Magazine, and in her free time she is an avid fisherwoman, food lover, and an explorer of Montana’s wild landscapes.
